Question 6:

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

During the process of making our opening sequence, we used various pieces of technologies and programs to help us create the finished product.

In the making of our production of our opening sequence we used the following programs and technologies:

We used a Panasonic HDC-SD90 video recording camera. This was a good quality camera to use in our opinion as it was suitable to use in high key lighting and low key lighting without losing effect. An example of this is the showing of the shed and burning of picture at the end. As this camera is a handheld camera, it enabled us to utilise the obviously shakiness that is used throughout our opening sequence. We used the tripod for the park scenes for them to be in the same position throughout. It was an easy set up but had to get the camera at the perfect balance for it to be professional. The only bad thing about the camera is that the zoom switch is very sensitive. It took quite a few takes to be able to get used to the sensitivity with it not zooming in or out too fast.

If we had the chance to use a higher quality camera such as a DSLR instead of the standard quality HDC-SD90 that we used, we would had expanded the use of the camera by using multiple focus pulls. The HDC-SD90 didn't have a great ability to provide us with this shot as it didn't have a great quality of focus. By having a better quality camera would had been an advantage to us as we could represent our camera skills further than what we showed.

We used an Apple Mac computer as our main tool throughout the process of constructing our opening sequence.

Final Cut Pro X was our main software for creating the opening sequence. We imported all our videos that we had taken previously on the camera via an SD Card. Then selected the videos that were suitable and started to edit to create with our final piece. We found the hardest part was using the blade tool, as we have many jump cuts throughout and we had to get them at a perfect length or else it wouldn't be as effective. None of us had used the software before, therefore it took some time to get used to, but it was easily grasped by watching Youtube videos that experts had made.

We used Motion to create our company logo as I (Jack) had previous knowledge of Motion and had access at home from personal computer. We found the software easy to use, however we did have a problem with how to import the project from Motion to Final Cut Pro X. Although every time we had a problem we would look on youtube at reliable experts that helped within minutes. We had the logo as a separate video and just imported it between scenes. We added more effect by adding an transition effect for it to flow.
