Question 5:

How did you attract/address your audience?
We addressed our audience and got our initial ideas from a survey that I created on surveymonkey.com - these questions are open and closed, meaning that we got straightforward answers. We got our family, friends and random strangers from Twitter to take our survey giving us their honest opinions and thoughts. The results we received helped us to figure out how to draw our audience in.

I watched popular horror films, mostly by myself seeing as my group are not massive fans of anything that could even be considered 'mildly scary', such as: Insidious, Se7en, Sinister, and The Conjuring to see what made these particular horror films so popular around the world, and how they are able to gain so many fans. Whilst watching these films, I realised that it wasn't the dialogue that creeped me out to the point where I was sleeping with the light on and holding my dog for dear life, it was the tense music that freaked me out. When you mute the film, it wasn't nearly even half as scary to watch, and didn't affect me nearly as badly... and so this is why we decided to not include any dialogue at all in our opening sequence. We let the music do the talking.

We tried to attract our audience by using cross-cutting through the shots, like what was used in Se7en (one of our influences), this got our audience familiar with the scenery of which they'd be viewing for the rest of the film, and were able to experience the surroundings that the children were facing.
