Opening Sequences
For our opening sequence our genre will be horror. Our main influences will be taken from the films: Se7en, Insidious and Sinister.
We will also be taking some ideas from the opening titles of 'American Horror Story: Coven'. The creator behind the opening titles for American Horror Story Coven is also the creator behind the opening sequence for 'Se7en'. They hold vast similarities, however we prefer the opening for American Horror Story Coven, as we find it more poignant and dark. We want to use the same low key lighting at certain parts of our opening sequence.
Our particular favourite, when it comes to the opening sequences, is the opening for 'Sinister'. There are no titles, simply a 'home movie' shown in slow motion. This makes the audience pay attention as there is more detail to focus on. The special effect of the slow motion creates the eerie, atmospheric tension that is carried out throughout the film. This opening sequence is portrayed, and should be seen, as immensely disturbing and distressing. We want the same effect on our audience when they watch our opening sequence.
The opening sequence for Insidious starts with opening titles in black and white with red typography. We see a small boy lying in a bed as the camera moves towards the hallway and there is a silhouette of a woman standing outside of a window. We are then taken through the house towards the face of a woman, who we can presume was the silhouette from the window from the scene before. We are going to try and aim to follow their style in where it is like a person in a house looking around and in black & white. We have chosen to go black & white as it is verisimilitude.
Our sound ideas are to have a nursery rhythm in a low tone to create a horror effect. This video is effective with audio but isn't long enough in time to use throughout the whole opening sequence video. We had the idea to have a mans deep voice counting down from 10 to 1 to create tension in the sequence.
