The Bourne Supremacy
In the opening sequence of 'The Bourne Supremacy', you learn that the company that is producing it is Universal Studios. The title of the film comes across the screen in a wipe animation. You can tell that this film is an action/thriller film by the chiaroscuro lighting and the changing pace of the shots. For example, it starts off jagged and blurry but then switches to fast pace motion and with the dialogue 'This is not a drill, soldier' in a low pitch of voice with an echo effect creates this mysterious feeling to the film which would attract the audiences attention and would want them to watch on.

The music is eerie which creates a suspenseful atmosphere. You gain a slight idea of the plot from the mise en scene and dialogue. You hear the dialogue 'okay it's fine, just a headache' with a reassuring tone which creates this unknown feeling to the audience and has suspension as the audience don't know what this character has done. The mise en scene is in a small flat which then leads to a bathroom with a single spotlight; this is low key lighting. There are also no credits.

Manhattan
In this opening sequence it is narrated by a character which is most likely the main protagonist. Throughout the sequence it is black and white, although the film was made in 1979. Woody Allen chose to do this because it represents the stereotypical New York. There are a whole range of shots within the opening sequence, such as: establishing shot, wide shot, aerial shot and master shot.
An example of a master shot is when all the action is taking place at this market in Manhattan with a load of clothes stalls. This represents the chaos of the city and how it is always on the move and making money.
The example for the aerial shot is the first part of the opening sequence with a high angle looking at the city. This could also be taken for an establishing shot too as it informs the audience the environment of the scene. Another example of establishing shot is when there is a tall flashing sign with Manhattan on it off of a building. It is taken from a low angle looking up to this sign. This could represent how everyone should 'romanticize over the city' as the narrator says.

Finally the example of a wide shot is when the camera is showing the whole street. It shows the pilled snow on the left hand side while cars are driving by on the right, along with the tall, wide buildings merging in the background.

Within the opening sequence it starts with this old fashioned music. This immediately makes the audience feel the time that the film is set, along with the mise en scene of Manhattan from an aerial shot fits in with the music being played. It has also been edited to black and white to represent the time it was set: 1979. You hear the narrators voice throughout with only images onscreen. It's a mans voice with a typical Manhattan accent who is telling this story about a man and his passion for New York City.
