Preliminary Task

Grace -  Our preliminary task consisted of Jack and Amymay having an encounter on the stairs. It began with an action match with Jack pushing the door and making his way onto the stairs. We then see Amymay walking up the stairs. Jack approaches Amymay and they stop midway on the stairs. The two converse and we see money being exchanged. There is then an over-the-shoulder shot (Amymay's shoulder is being looked over as the camera faces Jack). The camera continues to look upon Jack as he converses once again with Amymay. The task ends with the camera facing Amymay.

Jack - Our preliminary task had positive aspects to it which involved: action match, close up and clear sound. The close up shot was positive as we felt it showed the action clearly to the audience. The action match had continuity which had a smooth run of action when watching it back. This was effective as it doesn't look like it was taken in two shots. The last aspect is the clear sound. The dialogue is clear when being up close on the stairs. This would benefit the audience when understanding the scene as every word is understandable.

Amymay - In our preliminary task there were some negative aspects in our short film which we would change if we did it again. The opening action match of Jack walking through the door worked well and the cut was barely visible, however the initial shot of Jack on screen was angled incorrectly, leaning further to the right. Because of this we had the corridor in our scene and our mise en scene was irrelevant, such as the black and yellow tape.
Another negative aspect would be during the shot reverse shot between myself and Jack on the stairs. The camera was shaking as it was filmed handheld because we couldn't use the tripod. Finally, there was bad lighting when the money was exchanged causing shadows to be cast on our faces so our facial expressions weren't visible. If this was our final piece it would be vital that the lighting was correct in order for us to create our intended dramatic meaning. From this task we have created a successful first short film but we have learnt we need to consider our location because this effected our lighting and not being able to use the tripod.
